It was the news NB Power employees had been waiting to hear.

Workers gathered in a hotel conference room cheered and clapped Thursday afternoon after NB Power CEO Gaetan Thomas announced the five companies that make up the utility are being reunited.

Thomas and Energy Minister Jack Keir announced plans to reintegrate the five companies that were spun off as separate units six years ago.

The board of directors of the New Brunswick Power Holding Corp. recommended the change last month.

NB Power pitches energy reforms

CBC News: Tuesday, June 1, 2010: NB Power is proposing to the New Brunswick government that it bundle some of its competing subsidiaries back into a larger utility.

Gaetan Thomas, the president and chief executive officer of NB Power, and Edward Barrett, chairman of the utility's board of directors, outlined the proposed changes on Tuesday at a news conference.

N.B. pension funds bounce back
New Brunswick's 49,000 teachers, judges and civil servants can breathe a sigh of relief because their pension fund is back in the black.

But that doesn't mean the Liberal government's $749-million deficit will be any smaller this year.

John Sinclair, president and CEO of the New Brunswick Investment Management Corp., said Monday the three public service pension funds each earned a return of about 20 per cent in 2009-10.

NB Power ups number of buyout offers
FREDERICTON - NB Power is offering early retirement to about 200 management employees as part of its $20-million, cost-cutting program this summer.

That's twice the number first announced several weeks ago, although not all 200 are expected to accept the package, says a utility official.

"The word has been they will obviously take operational concerns into consideration," John McLaughlin, manager of media relations for NB Power, said Tuesday

BREAKING NEWS: NB Power sale cancelled

CBC News, March 24, 2010: New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham confirmed in the legislature Wednesday morning that his government will no longer sell NB Power's generation assets to Hydro-Quebec.

The New Brunswick government had planned to sell NB Power's generation assets to Hydro-Quebec for $3.2 billion.
