Local 37 names Senior Stewards
Posted February 19 2010
As part of a new recognition program recently launched by IBEW Local 37, 23 Shop Stewards will be receiving the Senior Steward designation for the exemplary leadership and commitment they have demonstrated in the role of Shop Steward.
On Thursday, February 25th the new Senior Stewards will be brought together at the Riverside Resort and Conference Centre in Mactaquac where they will be formally recognized during a special meeting of the Executive Board and IBEW International Vice-President, Phil Flemming. The purpose of the Senior Steward Recognition Program (SSRP) is to recognize those who, in addition to taking on the role of Shop Steward are committed to on-going training, being involved with committees or taking on other leadership roles within the Union.
In order to be considered for this designation, Shop Stewards are required to meet certain eligibility criteria (see below) and go through an application and review process. The goal of the program is to further develop Shop Stewards as leaders, identify potential mentors, and make the Union stronger. Applications may be submitted by Stewards at any time.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Shop Steward for at least three years
- Held (or holds) positions such as Executive Board Member, IBEW Committee Member, Unit Executive Member, Workplace Committee Member, etc.
- Attended at least three role-related training courses or conferences
- Participates in Union meetings and events.
