  April is Nomination Month

In compliance with Article III, Section 7 of the Bylaws for IBEW Local 37, elections for the Table Officer positions of President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and Business Manager/Financial Secretary and Executive Board Representatives will be held June 2010 by mail-in ballot. As well, President and Business Manager/Financial Secretary, by virtue of office, are automatic delegates to the International Convention in Vancouver 2011. All positions are 4 year terms. Nominations will proceed in the order of offices as listed in the IBEW constitution.

  • Executive Board Representatives: Conventional Generation (3 members: 1 North, 1 South, 1 Central & Hydro); Customer Service & Marketing (4 members: 1 North, 1 South/Eastern, 1 Central/Western, 1 HO & Marketing,); Nuclear (3 Executive Board members); Transmission ( Executive Board members)
Nominations will be held at your Unit's regular monthly meeting in April as outlined below. Voting instructions will be included with your ballot and mailed the third week of May. Ballots will be counted by the Election Judge and Tellers on June 16, 2010. The Election Judge will be appointed at the close of nominations in April 2010 and cannot be a candidate for any office.

Also according to Article III, Section 7 (d), a member is eligible to run for any Table Officer position or Executive Board Representative for the Business group of which they are an employee provided "they have been a member of IBEW Local 37 in continuous good standing for at least two years prior to nomination."

Members who wish to be nominated must be present during nominations or have signified their willingness in writing to the officer conducting the nominations prior to or during the meeting. No member may be a candidate for more than one office. Anyone nominated for more than one office must declare immediately for which office they will be a candidate.

Ultimately all the Union officers are there for you. You have more power than you may realize, as you can influence many aspects of the Union. As an example, each member is a vital part of the decision making process of the Local Union.

Some of your responsibilities as a member are:

  • Electing local union officials
  • Voting on policies and actions of the Union
  • Amending by-laws and agreement
  • Voting on where and how your union dues get spent
  • Voting on which benefits will be improved
  • Putting motions forward for the betterment of the Union
  • Having a voice in opposing issues that are detrimental to the Union
