Posted December 14 2009 Glimmer of hope for power plant Bill Clarke - Campbellton Tribune: Mayor Clem Tremblay has a message for the provincial government: he says that it should give serious consideration to a report about NB Power's thermal generating plant here. Tremblay said on Thursday of last week that he and town administrator Christy Arseneault met with the manager of the plant, Jeff Everett. They were told that the report, which will be presented next week, shows other uses for the facility and ways to save money. On Wednesday, Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour minister Donald Arseneault confirmed that he was aware of this report and that it would be presented to NB Power's board of directors. He said that he and energy minister Jack Keir had met with union representatives (IBEW Business Manager Ross Galbraith and Local 37 Executive Board member Derek Gallen) and made a commitment to look at the report to determine if the Dalhousie plant could be competitive in today's market. Posted November 12 2009 Industry big winner in NB Power sale (CBC) New Brunswick industry would get about $200 million more than residents during the first five years of the proposed deal between NB Power and Hydro-Quebec, CBC has learned. The province's Liberal government has repeatedly asserted that the deal would benefit big business and ordinary ratepayers equally. Now the province's auditor general has weighed in on the issue, calling on the government to provide more information. Posted November 07 2009 Moody's weighs in on power pact Rob Linke, Telegraph Journal OTTAWA Hydro-Quebec's $4.75-billion proposed purchase of NB Power would have no impact on New Brunswick's burden of net debt and would not be expected to change its credit rating, Moody's Investors Service said Tuesday. Moody's is now the third credit rating agency to conclude the proposed transaction will not have a direct impact in improving the province's credit rating. Local 37 members strongly ratified the contract we recently negotiated with the Electrical Contractors Association of NB. Late last week the government announced that in response to a large projected deficit, they are going to implement a wage restraint policy affecting all members of the public service. All existing collective agreements will be honoured, however as they expire the government plans to negotiate new agreements with a two-year wage freeze. More.... All Trust Funds are governed by a legal "trust agreement" that sets out the purpose of the trust as well as rules that ensure the trust is well governed. Several changes are being proposed for the IBEW Training Trust Fund trust agreement in order to ensure that it conforms to present day standards. Members will be given information and asked to vote on these changes during upcoming Unit meetings. The article was in response to a Telegraph Journal editorial which implied that New Brunswick's power rates were higher than they needed to be, and that the government should force our power rates to be as cheap as Quebec's.
