“Labour Day is a day for us to remember the importance and dignity of work; how far we’ve come and how we got here.”
Robert Blakely, Operations Director of Canada’s Building Trades Unions shares his message for the upcoming Labour Day holiday.
In his statement, Mr. Blakely, acknowledges the need for us to challenge our unions to support Indigenous Peoples, Women, Youth & New Canadians. He stresses the value of labour, the struggles to balance work & wages, and the challenge of meeting the market. Robert commends the Canadian Federal Government for repealing Bills C377 & C525, as well as adopting Convention 98 which recognizes the rights to organize & partake in meaningful collective bargaining. He emphasizes the importance of organizing the unorganized with the old labour motto “what we desire for ourselves we desire for others”.
